The Key Challenge: Leaders make a lot of presentations in public forums about organisation and technology. However perceived impact of presentations was “ok – ok”.
The Solution: 6 weeks Data Storytelling Program with individual and group practicums to sharpen Data Storytelling Skills.
Key Features:
1. 8 Short, Half day training programs spread over 6 weeks.
2. Group Assignments and Individual Assignments to apply learning.
3. Peer reviews to sharpen learning.
4. Support and Guidance from facilitators.
Leaders from an organisation were presenting about the organisation and the technology they were providing in public forums. The presentations were received well, however the “X” factor was missing.
We explored how these presentations are currently done. What emerged was:
1. Overarching Theme is “What I want to Convey”. Not clear on the kind of Audience being addressed and what their needs are.
2. Excellent Slide Deck, however too much information on a Slide.
3. Details of numbers and data provided, however too much “clutter”
4. Too much information provided in too little time.
5. Too many messages that clouded the key points to be made.
6. Structure and Flow of the message needed to be worked on.
Keeping this in mind, we defined an intervention with the following features:
1. 8 half-day sessions.
2. Sessions driven with a Case study and Practicums.
3. Developed Storytelling techniques and templates.
4. Understanding Audience types and matching to key messages.
5. Visually appealing data presentation with insights.
6. Storytelling to Enlighten, Explain and Engage the audience.
7. Learning in groups: peer feedback, guidance from facilitators part of learning.
8. Recorded presentations with feedback.
9. Preparing a presentation to be made in the next 4 weeks
At the end of the intervention, Participants reported that audience engagement went up, key messages were received well, and presentation impact was much more significant.
